HyperFrames Studio puts the agent on the same timeline

HyperFrames Studio lets a person and a coding agent edit the same project through a visual timeline and direct source-file writes.

HyperFrames Studio lets a person and a coding agent work on the same project through a visual timeline. On 2026-10-05, @HyperFrames_ described Studio as an editor where an agent builds from a description and both sides work on the timeline. A person can also mark a frame with a drawing or comment for the agent to turn into an edit.

Key facts

  • The HyperFrames Studio announcement was posted on 2026-10-05. It describes a workflow that combines an agent-built video with human timeline edits and frame comments.
  • The @hyperframes/studio package contains the React application, editor components, player, timeline, hooks, source editor, and property panel. Its monorepo development server listens on port 5190.
  • HyperFrames release v0.8.124 was published on 2026-10-04 at 17:30:39Z. Its notes include the macOS handoff and Windows/Linux app-opening change from pull request #4999.
  • Pull request #4999 merged as commit 6a27a34. At that revision, hyperframes open enabled handoff on macOS and wrote .hyperframes/agent-handoff.json for Claude Code or Codex sessions.
  • On 2026-10-06, the Studio download page listed downloads for macOS and Linux and no Windows download.
  • The changelog listed eleven follow-up releases, v0.8.125 through v0.8.135, released on 2026-10-04 and 2026-10-05.

How HyperFrames Studio shares a project

The package documentation describes a source-backed editor. It lists EditorShell, NLEPreview, Timeline, SourceEditor, PropertyPanel, and FileTree as parts of the editing interface. It also lists resolveSourceFile and applyPatch for locating and changing source.

The documented synchronization path has five parts:

  1. Studio loads the composition into an iframe with the HyperFrames runtime.
  2. Player controls talk to that runtime to play, pause, and seek.
  3. The editor and timeline send changes through the Studio API.
  4. The Studio server writes those changes back to the project files.
  5. External file changes refresh the preview while keeping the current position when possible.

For an agent workflow, that last step means an external write to the project folder can refresh the preview while preserving the current position when possible.

HyperFrames CLI handoff and platform gate

Release v0.8.124 describes handoff on macOS and app-opening paths on Windows and Linux. Pull request #4999 gives the more precise implementation boundary. HANDOFF_READY is true only when process.platform === "darwin". On macOS, hyperframes open [dir] starts the installed desktop app with the project folder and uses open -b.

The same pull request adds discovery paths for a per-user Windows installation at %LOCALAPPDATA%\\Programs\\HyperFrames\\HyperFrames.exe and for a Linux AppImage recorded in launcher.json. At that revision, Windows and Linux still show a download path until the desktop app can accept a project folder from the command line. The 2026-10-06 Studio page lists macOS and Linux downloads and no Windows download.

When hyperframes open runs inside Claude Code or Codex, the CLI leaves .hyperframes/agent-handoff.json with the corresponding CLAUDE_CODE_SESSION_ID or CODEX_THREAD_ID. The desktop app can use that file so its first chat continues the terminal conversation. This is session handoff, not a claim that the agent and editor have separate copies of the project.

HyperFrames Studio's release sequence after v0.8.124

The changelog shows eleven follow-up releases after v0.8.124. The entries are dated 2026-10-04 or 2026-10-05 and include fixes in the same editing paths the shared timeline uses:

  • v0.8.128 saves drag and resize changes for selected clips in one write per file.
  • v0.8.131 lets an embedding app record its writes under Studio's edit-history key.
  • v0.8.133 restacks only the timeline clip that was moved.
  • v0.8.134 keeps a plain element's place and size when it receives keyframes.
  • v0.8.135 preserves keyframe easing and lets undo take back the latest edit.

The documented workflow lets an agent create and revise source while a person inspects the same source-backed composition in Studio and makes timeline edits. Both modes meet at the project files, not at an exported MP4.
