AI coding agent CLI pricing and usage limits, October 2026

Paid tiers start at ₹649/month in India or $10/month for Copilot Pro; heavy-use tiers reach $100–$500/month. Cursor publishes pools, not dollar allowances.

Update (2026-10-07): Rechecked first-party vendor pages, removed unsupported dollar allowances and third-party rows, and updated plan limits.

On 2026-10-07, paid tiers start at ₹649/month for Cursor Start in India and $10/month for GitHub Copilot Pro; ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Cursor Pro cost $20/month, while Google AI Pro is $19.99/month. Free access exists through Antigravity CLI and Copilot Free. The upper end reaches $500/month on ChatGPT Pro 500.

Key facts

  • Claude Code is included in paid Claude plans. Pro is $20/month ($17/month with annual billing); its shared usage pool resets on a rolling five-hour window and also has a weekly limit.
  • Codex CLI is included with ChatGPT plans. Plus estimates 15–160 GPT-6.1 Sol or 350–3,000 GPT-6 Luna local messages per five hours; Pro has no five-hour limit on the page read.
  • Gemini CLI’s plans page says the consumer path was replaced by Antigravity on 2026-06-18. Antigravity is available at no charge; AI Pro is $19.99/month, and Ultra has $100 5x and $200 20x tiers.
  • Cursor lists Hobby, Start at ₹649/month in India, Pro at $20, Pro+ at $60 and Ultra at $200. Its pages describe two pools, not dollar allowances.
  • GitHub Copilot uses AI Credits for agent work and CLI use. One credit is $0.01; paid allowances are 1,500 for Pro, 7,000 for Pro+, and 20,000 for Max.

What do Claude Code and Codex CLI cost?

The Anthropic and OpenAI terminal agents attach to consumer subscriptions rather than charging a separate CLI seat. Anthropic says, “Claude Code is included in all paid plans.” Claude Code shares its pool with Claude web, desktop and mobile; usage varies by model, context, tools and task length. Anthropic’s pricing page lists Pro at $20 monthly or $17 annually, and Max from $100. The Max plan page lists Max 5x at $100 and Max 20x at $200, with five-hour and weekly limits.

Claude’s Console is token-metered: Opus 5.5 is $4/M input and $20/M output, while Sonnet 5.5 is $2/M and $10/M on the Anthropic pricing page. OpenAI’s API-key route is also usage-based; gpt-6.1-sol is $2/M input and $10/M output for short context.

The OpenAI Codex pricing page estimates Plus usage per five-hour period: 15–160 local messages for GPT-6.1 Sol and 350–3,000 for GPT-6 Luna. Local and cloud chats share the allowance, and weekly limits may apply. OpenAI’s Pro help page lists Pro 100, 200 and 500 at $100, $200 and $500; the Codex page says Pro has no five-hour limit.

Like What changed in Claude Code during September 2026?, this is a shared-capacity problem, not a simple “messages per CLI” problem. The Codex CLI refresh is a related product change, but its usage still follows the plan table below.

How do Gemini CLI and Antigravity measure usage?

Google’s consumer CLI changed names and billing context. Google’s 2026-05-19 transition announcement says that free, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra Gemini CLI request serving stopped on 2026-06-18, while enterprise and API-key access remained available. The Gemini CLI plans page repeats that the consumer path was replaced by Antigravity CLI, so its legacy 1,000-request documentation should not be treated as the October 2026 consumer plan table.

Antigravity’s product page says the product is available at no charge. Google’s plan page labels Antigravity agent requests “Limited” on AI Plus, “Expanded” on AI Pro, and “Higher” or “Highest” on Ultra, without publishing a fixed request count. Google’s I/O announcement describes the unit as compute rather than raw messages:

“We’re moving from daily prompt limits to a ‘compute-used’ model.” — Google

That announcement says limits refresh every five hours until a weekly limit, and gives the paid Ultra multipliers: $100/month is 5x Pro usage and $200/month is 20x. The Google AI plans page lists AI Pro at $19.99/month and expanded Antigravity limits. Compare these tiers by compute access, not message count.

How does Cursor’s two-pool model differ from a dollar allowance?

Cursor’s official pricing page lists Hobby as free with limited Agent requests and Pro at $20/month. Its pricing reference lists Start at ₹649/month in India, Pro at $20, Pro+ at $60 and Ultra at $200. Start covers the Cursor Models pool only; Pro, Pro+ and Ultra include both Cursor Models and Other Models.

The usage documentation says the two pools reset monthly with the billing cycle, unused usage does not roll over, and on-demand usage can continue at model/API rates. It publishes no dollar amount for either pool.

How does GitHub Copilot meter CLI and coding-agent work?

On 2026-10-07, GitHub’s individual billing model is AI Credits. The plans page lists Copilot Pro at $10/month with $15 total monthly credits, Pro+ at $39 with $70, and Max at $100 with $200. The individual billing documentation says one credit equals $0.01; chat, agents, code review, cloud agent and Copilot CLI consume credits, but completions do not.

Copilot Free is $0 and is limited to 2,000 code completions and 50 chat requests per month. Included credits do not roll over: GitHub says the allowance resets at 00:00:00 UTC on the first day of each calendar month, regardless of the subscription billing date. When the allowance is exhausted, an individual can buy additional usage or wait for the next monthly cycle. GitHub’s older premium-request page is marked legacy; use the AI Credits page for the October 2026 figures.
